Exploring creativity through quilting

Hospice Quilts Project

SECU (State Employees Credit Union) Crystal Coast Hospice House is a non-profit organization that provides a wonderful inpatient experience for residents of the Crystal Coast as well as Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow and Pamlico counties. They provide a warm and supportive environment for terminally ill hospice patients who desire inpatient care and for their loved ones who wish to be by their side.

The Hospice House has a 10 bed maximum for the terminally ill. While they are unable to provide annual daily census data for the entire year, their records show that they were at an 86% or greater capacity for the months of June-July 2025. They also have a waiting list at any given time.

The Hospice House strives to have a special throw, blanket, or quilt at the end of each patient's bed for their use during their stay. It is then given to the family upon the passing of the patient.

In 2024, the Crystal Coast Quilters Guild took on the Hospice House as one of its charitable programs and began making and donating quilts to their patients.  To date, the Guild has donated over 40+ quilts. Each quilt is lovingly made and takes approximately 18 hours of each quilter’s time.
