Family reunions, picnic, hotdogs and hamburgers, parades, beach time, fireworks set in perfect time to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. Are these your 4th of July traditions and or favorite memories? I know I look forward to the 4th every year for most of these and because it is a time to celebrate our Independence.
This year is especially special, a once in a life time occasion for many of us, the 250th birth of the United States. By many other countries’ standards, we are still a very young nation. With many challenges and changes in our future. How exciting to be a part of all that is coming.
In many ways the changes in our country are much like quilting today.
In her book, ‘American Quilts’ by Sandra Sider, she covers quilting in the United States from 1876 to Today. As I work my way through her book, I am impressed by our rich history in quilting. It is giving me much to think about as I continue to learn more about the art of quilt making.
As well see how much quilting today differs from what my Grandmother and mother did.
This month we also celebrate our Guild’s birthday! I hope to see as many of you as possible at the birthday luncheon that Kristeen Dolan has arrange for us on July 17th!
Enjoy your 4th and all your plans for this July. Please be safe. Apply your sunscreen frequently and hydrate. ☺
See you on the quilted side,
Lis
